Fisher named to artificial intelligence task force
Kathleen Fisher, professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science, has been appointed to a task force on artificial intelligence and national security, launched by The Center for a New American Security (CNAS). The Task Force on Artificial Intelligence and National Security brings together experts from academia, government, and private industry, and will be chaired by former Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert O. Work and Andrew Moore, Dean of the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University.
Fisher's research focuses on advancing the theory and practice of programming languages and on applying ideas from the programming language community to the problem of ad hoc data management. Before joining Tufts School of Engineering, Fisher was a program manager at DARPA, where she started and managed the HACMS and PPAML programs.
The task force will investigate how the United States should respond to the national security challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
